PHARMACOLOGICAL CONSULTATION
The Creighton Cardiac Center has an established therapeutic monitoring service. The primary focus of the service is a warfarin monitoring service. Cardiac patients on the anticoagulant warfarin are monitored closely for drug and food interactions that potentially could effect protime levels. Patients are educated on the type of medication and food they should avoid and any potiential side effects that could occur. Protime levels are monitored closely and the warfarin dosage is adjusted accordingly.
Several other services that are offered by the monitoring service is a lipid monitoring service, and an amiodarone monitoring service. Cardiac patients with elevated cholesterol are educated on proper diet and when necessary their medication is adjusted to maintain cholesterol levels within the recommended range established by the American Heart Association.
Cardiac patients presently taking the drug amiodarone are monitored for side effects and drug levels monitored and adjusted accordingly.
